Friend of Mine Co-Founder, Letitia Mclean
When it comes to need-right-now fashion that always hits the spot, Australian label Friend of Mine is on the money. Known for grungy sex appeal, their latest collection ‘Gypset’ sees the brand embrace exotic prints and a bohemian rhapsody feel. We got the scoop from Co-Founder and Managing Director, Letitia Mclean.
Tell us a little about Friend of Mine…
"Since Teale (Talbot, Co-Founder and Designer) and I launched Friend of Mine four years ago, we have seen the label grow incredibly well and have been able to travel and live throughout the world as a result. We are now based in both LA and Melbourne and stocked in over 60 stores worldwide," says Co-Founder and Managing Director, Letitia Mclean.
What was the inspiration behind your latest collection, ‘Gypset’?
"The 'Gypset' collection reflects the ease, character and free lifestyle of the 'Gypsetters'; jet-setting artists, designers and bon vivants of the past and present who live, work and travel around the world from New York, to Barcelona, Paris and Hong Kong," explains McLean.

The 'Gypset' girl is a little more boho than previous collections...
"Yes, for this collection we really embraced prints on beautiful sand washed silks and it was very well received," says Mclean. "The colours are just so beautiful to wear and the exotic patterns of paisley and leopard translate perfectly from day to night".
What was the inspiration behind your campaign shoot?
"The 'Gypsetter' trend was a great reference to shoot with. We added elements of bohemia with henna body art, exotic neckpieces, stacked cuffs, theatrical beauty and amazing shoes," says Mclean, adding that this was also a change for Friend of Mine. "The creative team went all out on styling, hair and make-up — it was a fun break away from our normally clean aesthetic".
Tell us about the incredible beauty look…
"We chose a statement smokey cat-eye and big side plait to go with the bohemian style of the collection. It's quite theatrical, but you can do that in fashion with campaigns," says Mclean.
What are the three essentials for getting the ‘Gypset’ look?
"You have to have a nonchalant attitude, spunk and spontaneity," says Mclean. "The Friend of Mine girl loves wearing clothes and playing with trends, she's brave and adventurous, so we're sure she'll love styling her look around the draping, detail in beading and edgy leather".
