How to:
Choose the right lip colour

Eeny, meeny, miny, moe, which lipstick colour shall we go? Nowadays we are spoilt for choice with the rainbow selection of hues, however it can be overwhelming when there are 50 lipstick shades on offer and you don’t have time to play around.

Makeup artist, Katrina Raftery, who has created looks for the pages of Vogue Australia, Harper’s Bazaar and InStyle, recommends choosing lipstick based on your skin tone and hair colour to help quickly hone in on shades that are guaranteed to suit.

“Pale skin and blonde hair always suit a bright red lip,” says Raftery. “Darker skin and brunette shades look amazing in wine hues with cherry tones,” she adds. The darker your skin tone, the more playful you can become. Fancy yourself on the berry side of things? ModelCo Party Proof in ‘Incognito’ is for you. If you’re looking for something with a deeper base, ‘Purple Sangria is a great plum hue perfect for darker complexions. As for that bright red shade, try ModelCo Party Proof Lipstick in ‘After Hours’.

When it comes to nude hues, the rule of thumb is to always go one shade darker than your natural lip colour, “With the right shade, flesh toned lipstick suits everyone,” declares Raftery. Lucky for you, we have a few to choose from here.
